We are delighted to be able to announce that goalkeepers Cameron Belford and Ian Bentley are confirmed to be playing for the Southend United Legends side on Sunday 17th May.

The custodians will battle for the number one shirt on the day having both signed on to play for the Legends side.

Cameron Belford, who was born on 16/10/1988, has had two loan spells at the Club during 2012 under the management of Paul Sturrock. Cameron originally signed for the Club on loan during the January transfer window of 2012 following an injury to number one Glenn Morris. He kept hold of the shirt for the rest of the season, which saw Southend United lose to Crewe in the play-off semi final. Cameron’s athleticism and performances made him a fans’ favourite whilst with the Club. He then re-joined the Club on loan on the eve of the start of the new season before Paul Sturrock brought in Paul Smith to be his number one. In total, Cameron made 20 appearances for Southend United in all competitions. Cameron has also played for Coventry City, Tamworth (Loan), Bury, Worcester City (Loan), Accrington Stanley (Loan), Tamworth, Mansfield Town and Rushall Olympic.

Ian Bentley, who was born on 18/04/1967, is the father to current number one Dan Bentley. Although he has never appeared for Southend, he follows his son home and away. During his early years, Ian played for Manchester United before going on to play in Singapore and Hong Kong. He still represents the PFA 7’s side as well as playing Sunday League football at present.

We are delighted to have them on board, and look forward to seeing them in action on Sunday 17th May.
