We are delighted to be able to announce that three more players have confirmed to be playing for the Southend United Legends side on Sunday 17th May.
The three new players bring the total of players for the Southend United Legends to 12.
First up is a player, who later went on to become one of the Clubs most successful managers. During his playing days he was also voted as Southend United’s “Player of the Millennium”. Steve Tilson, who was born on 12/07/1966, had two spells as a player for the Club, and also spent 7 years as manager securing back-to-back promotions, two LDV vans final appearances, a League Cup victory over Manchester United and a lot of good memories to the Club having spent a long time in the basement division. He initially joined the Club from local non-league side Witham Town and also secured back-to-back promotions as a player at the Club. Steve made 227 starts for the Club, and a further 47 appearances from the bench scoring 30 goals from midfield for the South Essex Club. Steve has also played for Witham Town, Brentford (Loan) and Canvey Island.
The second confirmed player of the day is a forward who played for the Club between 1981 and 1984. Danny Greaves, who was born on 31/10/1963, started his career as a youngster on the books of Tottenham Hotspurs before joining Southend United. During his time at the Club, he went on the make 33 starts and a further 20 appearances from the bench in all competitions. During those outings, he scored 14 goals for the Club. Danny also played for Cambridge United and Chelmsford City before going on to manage Witham Town.
Finally, the third confirmed player of the day is a defender who only made one appearance for the Club. Craig Davidson, who was born on 02/05/1974, is better known for his spell at local non-league rivals Canvey Island, but he made his one and only appearance for Southend United as a substitute in the League Cup in the 1994/1995 before moving onto Chelmsford City. Craig was also Steve Tilson’s assistant manager at Canvey Island. Craig also played for Canvey Island, Aldershot Town, Chelmsford City and Dagenham & Redbridge.
