We are delighted to be able to announce the thirteenth Legend to be confirmed for the Southend United Legends side on Sunday 17th May.
Ian Benjamin, who was born on 11/12/1961, joined Southend United on a free transfer from Exeter City in March 1990. Benji played a huge part in helping the Club achieve promotion to the second tier of English Football by scoring the only goal of the game against Bury on 4th May 1991. This goal has recently been voted as the most important goal in Southend United’s history. He left the Club in November 1992, joining Luton Town for £50K. The centre forward went on to make 139 starts in all competitions at Southend scoring 38 goals. During his time at the Club, he never made an appearance from the bench, which highlights his importance during his time at Southend United. Ian also played for Sheffield United, West Brom, Notts County, Peterborough United, Northampton Town, Cambridge United, Chester, Exeter City, Luton Town, Brentford & Wigan Athletic.
We are delighted to have Ian on board, and we look forward to welcoming him on Sunday 17th May.
